Making drone shots in Rotterdam is not something everyone is allowed to do. The reason is the urban environment that Rotterdam is and the controlled airspace the city of Rotterdam has because of the nearby international airport. At Kiwi Aerial Shots we have the European SPECIFIC certification to make legal drone flights in Rotterdam and in the harbor, the Maasvlakte. With this legal certification, we can fly both our small FPV drones as our big heavy-lifter drones, even after dark which is normally forbidden in the Netherlands.
Because of the nearby international airport, we have to file our flight plans five days in advance. They want to know the date, exact location, and time window we want to fly our drones. On sight, we have to work with a so-called RT-operator. This is an extra addition to our drone team which is in direct contact with air traffic control during our flight. This is done through a radio and 10m high antenna we bring with us. We also inform the local police to make sure we are not being bothered during te shoot showing our paperwork. Instead, we want to focus on giving you the best possible drone shots of Rotterdam.

DJI INSPIRE 3 / FPV DRONES / HEAVY-LIFTERS
Because of our SPECIFIC certification, we can fly all types of drones in the city of Rotterdam. Which drone we use depends on the camera needed and the movement of the drone which of course all depend on the wishes you have for your video production. The drone we use mostly in Rotterdam is our DJI Inspire 3 drone with Zenmuse X9 camera. This drone camera has a FullFrame sensor and can shoot op to 75fps in 8K. We bring the complete lens set of 18, 24, 35, and 50mm and can deliver footage in CinemaDNG, ProressRAW, and H264.
When a bigger film production comes to Rotterdam we often fly our Condor Heavy-lift drone. This is a drone like the Alta-X but more sufficient for the European market. This has to do with the maximum take-off weight we can fly in Europe, namely 25KG. Our Condor drone flies the Ronin 2 pro gimbal and we usually fly our own ARRI Alexa MINI which is completely insured through us. With this drone and camera, we can fly the bigger cinema PRIME lenses. At Kiwi Aerial Shots we also have our FPV specialists for professional FPV drone shots in Rotterdam. Actually, our main FPV pilot lives right next to the Euromast in the city center of Rotterdam. For our FPV drone production in Rotterdam we fly the naked Gopro 12, Black Magic, a Freefly Ember setup, or our FPV with Zenmuse X7 gimbal setup. MAKING DRONE SHOTS IN THE ROTTERDAM HARBOR
As goes for flying a drone in the city center of Rotterdam, a European drone certificate is also needed for flying a drone at the Maasvlakte, the international harbor of Rotterdam. We have been flying our drones for 13 years in this harbor and know how to get the best shots at this industrial location. For the Maasvlakte we also have to show a flight plan five days in advance to multiple organizations. Most importantly is ‘Port of Rotterdam’ (POR) they need to know exactly when and where we will be flying our drones at the harbor. We also need to notify customs, the harbor coördination center, locale police, and the nearby heliport. Luckily, no RT-operator is needed in 90% of the Maasvlakte area which saves costs.
