"FLYING LEGAL AND SAVE, COMPLETELY CERTIFIED AND INSURED"
Making drone shots in Rotterdam is not something everyone is allowed to do. The reason is the urban environment that Rotterdam is and the controlled airspace the city of Rotterdam has because of the nearby international airport. At Kiwi Aerial Shots we have the European SPECIFIC certification to make legal drone flights in Rotterdam and in the harbor, the Maasvlakte. With this legal certification, we can fly both our small FPV drones as our big heavy-lifter drones, even after dark which is normally forbidden in the Netherlands.
Because of the nearby international airport, we have to file our flight plans five days in advance. They want to know the date, exact location, and time window we want to fly our drones. On sight, we have to work with a so-called RT-operator. This is an extra addition to our drone team which is in direct contact with air traffic control during our flight. This is done through a radio and 10m high antenna we bring with us. We also inform the local police to make sure we are not being bothered during te shoot showing our paperwork. Instead, we want to focus on giving you the best possible drone shots of Rotterdam.
"PROFESSIONAL DRONE SHOTS OF ROTTERDAM FOR YOUR PRODUCTION"
OUR Drones and Cameras for making drone shots in Rotterdam
DJI INSPIRE 3 / FPV DRONES / HEAVY-LIFTERS
Thanks to our EASA Specific Category certification, we are authorised to fly all types of professional drones in Rotterdam. Which drone we deploy depends on the camera required and the type of movement the production calls for. The drone we use most frequently in Rotterdam is our DJI Inspire 3 with Zenmuse X9 camera. This full-frame cinema camera shoots up to 75fps in 8K and we bring the complete lens set of 18, 24, 35 and 50mm. Footage is delivered in CinemaDNG, ProRes RAW or H.264.
For larger drone productions in Rotterdam we deploy our heavy-lift Condor drone with a Movi gimbal, allowing us to fly cinema camera bodies up to 9kg. This includes our own ARRI Alexa Mini and RED camera systems with heavier prime lens setups.
For fast action in tight spaces we offer a range of FPV drones. We fly big small FPV drones with a Naked GoPro 13, RED Komodo-x or a Blackmagic camera. Alongside the specialist pilot, a spotter will always be present at FPV shoots in Rotterdam to monitor the surrounding area for external risks.
Rotterdam has one of the most iconic cityscapes in the Netherlands, and it comes into its own in night exterior shoots. With our in-house built drone lighting systems, ranging from a 600W FPV LED to a 2500W water-cooled gimbal rig, we light locations such as the Erasmus Bridge, the Euromast and the Kop van Zuid skyline from the air. We are night-flight certified and work closely with the gaffer and DOP on set. More information on our drone lighting page.
For fast action in tight spaces we offer a range of FPV drones. We fly small FPV drones with a Naked GoPro 13, Mission 1 or Blackmagic camera, as well as setups such as the Freefly Ember. Alongside the specialist pilot, a spotter will always be present at FPV shoots in Rotterdam to monitor the surrounding area for external risks. Read more about our FPV drone shoots on our FPV drone service page.

MAKING DRONE SHOTS IN THE ROTTERDAM HARBOR
As goes for flying a drone in the city center of Rotterdam, a European drone certificate is also needed for flying a drone at the Maasvlakte, the international harbor of Rotterdam. We have been flying our drones for 14 years in this harbor and know how to get the best shots at this industrial location. For the Maasvlakte we also have to show a flight plan five days in advance to multiple organizations. Most importantly is ‘Port of Rotterdam’ (POR) they need to know exactly when and where we will be flying our drones at the harbor. We also need to notify customs, the harbor coördination center, locale police, and the nearby heliport. Luckily, no RT-operator is needed in 90% of the Maasvlakte area which saves costs.
