CINEMATIC DRONE LIGHTING
LIGHTING YOUR FILMSET ON HARD TO GET PLACED OR FOR CONCEPTUAL USE
In the last couple of years, we have developed various drone lighting systems that can be used for different purposes. We can be your moonlight on set where a crane or Manitou can not get, we can chase high-speed action up to 100kmph, or the lights can be used as a conceptual part of your video. Some of our drone lighting systems are water-cooled and have a massive LED light output of 163.000 lumens and yet, they are crazy lightweight. The combination of techniques behind this product is unique and provides new possibilities for use underneath drones. We developed this system ourselves, based on the Stratus-led project from America. We created different drone lighting systems so let us know what you are looking for and if needed, we build a completely new setup for your groundbreaking production.

FAST & FLEXIBLE | EASY TO RELOCATE | STATIC OR MOVING |
Hard-to-reach locations where a crane or Manitou can not get are a piece of cake for our lighting drones. Using GPS we can get back to the same location over and over again, always providing continuity for your production. We can fly our lighting systems above water, in dense forests, in the mountains, or deserts, it’s no problem for us. Our drone lights are gimbal-controlled so we can adjust the angle in mid flight. We can dim the lights and turn them on and off from a distance and fly one or even multiple drone lighting systems simultaneously! All our drones are equipped with an FPV camera so our pilots and lighting operators can easily see where they are aiming the light.

MAXIMUM LIGHT POWER WITH ONE OR MULTIPLE DRONES
To fly with our drone lighting system, a lot of technical knowledge is needed. In contrast to what lots of people think, LED lights can become really hot. Cooling them is essential but hard to realize at this level of light output. We are proud that we managed to do this with a source of 163.000 lumen and a total weight of a little less than 2KG. We made it work by adding a water-cooled system which is truly exceptional. The Drone LED light we build can be compared with an 8-10KW ARRI in terms of light output and pulls 70 Ampere at 25 Volt.

FPV DRONE LIGHTING SETUP
Small FPV drone with flying LED lighting
Next to our BIG 2400W Gimbal controlled setup, we also have a setup for our smallest drone, a unique FPV LED drone setup. The LED lights on this FPV drone are directly mounted on the body, shining in two directions giving the effect of a small Disney-like lighting ball flying through the sky. We fly this setup with our FPV drone pilot Thomas de Koster. Let us know if you have any questions regarding which setup will work best for your video production.
DRONE LIGHTING WORKFLOW
AIR TIME | CHARGING BATTERIES | MONITOR
Working us and our drone lighting system is a little bit different than working with a crane or Manitou. Our drones can get to hard to reach places you were never able to put up a light. We can easily change locations, we can hang absolutely still or chase the action flying 100kmph. A disadvantage is maybe we need to change batteries once in a while. Currently, we have a flight time of 12 minutes so during the reset we also land and change the batteries of the drone. This takes around 2 minutes after which we can take off and fly to the exact same location as before, using GPS. We are currently working on a bigger setup and bigger drone getting our airtime up to 20 or even 25 minutes! Charging we do next to our Kiwi van or using a 5KW generator. These things are always discussed in pre-production in collaboration with ELT. using the genny makes us able to have non-stop drone flights, not missing a single take. To see what we are adding to the image, we like to give our DJI transmission sender to the VTR so we can see the A camera image on our own 21″ monitor. This way we know what the 1stAD or DoP is talking about and we can deliver in the best possible way.

ALWAYS BUILDING GROUNDBREAKING EQUIPMENT
At Kiwi Aerial Shots we know that every production comes with its own wishes and requests. In our Workshop in Amsterdam, we build custom products because they are always needed for productions that push the boundaries. We love to hear your crazy ideas and work with you to make the production truly unique and customize this LED lamp in any possible way.
