The Medina of Marrakesh, the desert or the Atlas mountains

Morocco is an exceptional location for drone filming, and in November 2025, Kiwi Aerial Shots carried out a high-end drone production in the heart of the Medina of Marrakech using our DJI Inspire 3 drones. Fully certified and operating under the supervision of local authorities and police, we were authorized to capture aerial footage above the historic city center and the Medina. In addition, we conducted drone operations at the NOOR Solar Power Complex, a large-scale renewable energy facility that generates solar power through a unique system of thousands of heliostat mirrors. We also completed drone filming in the Atlas Mountains, capturing cinematic aerial footage of the mountain landscapes and surrounding desert environments.

Local Fixers and producers

We have the local connections and industry partners to manage every aspect of drone filming in Morocco through trusted local professionals. Our partners in Morocco are involved in major international film productions, including blockbuster feature films such as The Mummy and Gladiator. These production partners maintain established relationships with government authorities, customs officials, and local police, enabling all permits, exemptions, and approvals to be handled thoroughly and efficiently. We also work with local producers who are active in the Netherlands, ensuring smooth communication and alignment with international production standards. In addition, we have access to a reliable local network of drone companies that can support our operations with batteries, cameras, lenses, and even backup drones, should any equipment encounter delays or issues at the border.

Drone regulations Morocco

Flying drones in Morocco involves significant regulatory complexity, as bringing drones into the country is generally prohibited by default. To legally operate a drone in Morocco, all required documentation must be arranged in advance with the support of local drone operators or production companies. You should allow a minimum of six weeks to complete the full approval process. Below are some key points regarding drone regulations in Morocco:

  • Drone pilots must hold a valid EASA or FAA certification
  • Drones may be imported into Morocco only with the required permits and documentation
  • Exact flight locations must be specified in advance for each drone permit application
  • Recreational drone us is prohibited in Morocco
  • Special care must be taken around sensitive locations, such as airports, military zones, and royal palaces
  • A drone permit can only be issued as part of a CMM (Centre Cinématographique Marocain) film permit
  • All drone flights must be conducted under VLOS (Visual Line of Sight) conditions at all times
  • Both the drone and the operating drone company must be fully insured

Morocco is a country where regulations, drone operations, and certification processes function very differently from the highly structured frameworks of the Netherlands or the European Union. Without the right local connections, it is virtually impossible to make progress, and arranging all certifications independently is, in practice, not feasible. At Kiwi Aerial Shots, we have these essential local relationships in place, ranging from film producers to local drone companies, enabling us to provide end-to-end guidance and execution for professional drone productions in Morocco.
