PROFESSIONAL IMMERSIVE DRONE SHOTS
APPLE VISION PRO | GIANT SCREEN | 360 VR | Flying Theater
Kiwi Aerial Shots is a specialist drone company dedicated to immersive and spatial aerial cinematography. We create high-end 360° VR and 180° immersive cinema for Flying theater, ‘Giant-screen’ & Apple Vision Pro video productions. With over 14 years of experience in professional aerial filmmaking, we operate worldwide for immersive productions for flying theaters, theme parks, corporate films, museums, expeditions, and major film productions.
For almost 10 years, we have been developing and producing 360-degree and 180-degree aerial content, using both custom-built drones and helicopter rigs for large-scale immersive productions. Depending on the final application, a VR headsets, full dome installations, or spatial video, we select or engineer the optimal camera setup and drone or helicopter configuration. We operate our own VR cameras, design and build custom drones, and work with specialised crews covering production, post-production, and immersive storytelling. If the required technology does not yet exist, we develop it in-house in our Amsterdam workshop.

These days we are specialized in 180° immersive drone productions for Apple Vision Pro, Galaxy XR & Giant Screens or Flying theater platforms. To ensure a completely unobstructed field of view, we developed a unique Immersive Condor drone with a forward-mounted camera rig. This setup positions the lens of cameras like the Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive or the ACHTEL 9×7 ahead of the propellers, delivering a completely free FOV for immersive productions. We are proud to have provided aerials for Giant Screen production and flying theaters like Portlantis and MacGillivray Freeman’s latest film, Cities of the Future.
For platforms like Apple Vision Pro and Meta Quest, we utilize stereoscopy to create a true sense of depth. Using the latest dual-lens Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive system, we capture 3D Spatial Video that mimics human vision for a natural, immersive VR experience. We provide these high-end drone services fully insured and certified, offering a complete solution for the next generation of immersive storytelling.
A pioneering development in 180-degree capture is the use of stereoscopy. While stereoscopy is often less relevant for traditional drone shots or dome projections due to subject distance and projection methods, it offers immense value for platforms such as the Meta Quest, Galaxy XR, and Apple Vision Pro. To achieve this, we utilize the latest Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive camera, featuring a dual-lens system. This setup creates 3D Spatial imagery that mimics human vision, delivering a natural and deeply immersive VR experience for the viewer. We are now able to offer these specialized drone captures, including the URSA Cine Immersive camera, fully insured and certified for professional productions.

For nearly 10 years, we have been capturing 360-degree footage using drones, helicopters, and RC buggies, realizing immersive productions worldwide. A 360-degree camera uses multiple lenses to register the entire environment. By flying these cameras under our drones, we create immersive aerial perspectives for 360 VR tours, corporate videos, and large-scale installations in museums, theme parks, and exhibitions. Our work is featured at trade shows, in museum installations, and in a major 360 VR experience on Pampus Island. We have captured 360-degree aerials in diverse locations, from the Maasvlakte to the Amazon and the Bahamas.
Specialized technology is essential for stable and comfortable 360-degree drone shots. That is why we developed our own 360-degree drone rig that actively positions the camera at the correct distance below the drone. This prevents unwanted oscillations, minimizes distortion, and simplifies removing the drone in post-production via sky replacement without disturbing artifacts or “wave effects.” Since a low-hanging 360-camera cannot land independently, we developed a unique system to safely retrieve the camera before the drone performs a regular landing.
NOTE: On mobile devices, these 360 videos can not be seen in full 360. Only the teaser ‘Cities of the future’ is a “normal” trailer.

Immersive and spatial film productions are at a technological tipping point. With the introduction of the Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive camera and the high resolution of the Apple Vision Pro, camera technology, headsets, and post-production are finally converging into one mature workflow. This camera records stereoscopic 180-degree spatial video using two full-frame sensors, high bit-depth, and a dynamic range optimized for HDR playback on Apple Vision Pro, Galaxy XR, and large-scale DOME productions. At Kiwi Aerial Shots, we fly this camera system using our custom-built heavy-lift immersive Condor drone.
For 360-degree productions, we have years of experience with proven systems like the Insta360 Pro 2, the Titan or X5 camera. The most often used Pro 2 is a professional six-lens camera that captures 8K monoscopic and 3D stereoscopic 360-degree footage with reliable sync and consistent stitching. For large-scale DOME and Giant Screen productions, we also deploy the 12K Pyxis and the ACHTEL 9×7. These high-end cameras offer extreme resolutions and, when paired with the right sharp lens, a perfect large image circle designed for immersive cinema and fisheye DOME projections with minimal optical distortion.
From our workshop in Amsterdam, we develop custom drones, camera rigs, and workflows tailored to these systems. Our extensive experience with drones, helicopters, and ground-based platforms allows us to realize immersive and spatial captures at a global scale and quality, suitable for everything from VR headsets and Apple Vision Pro to museums, theme parks, and Giant Screen Flying-theaters.

In addition to immersive drone captures, we offer high-resolution VR recording from helicopters. This can be achieved using professional 360-degree cameras or our own custom-built camera array systems. For example, we developed a setup capable of 21K resolution with a 310-degree field of view. These images were used for a film production for ‘The Flying Dutchman’ at Madurodam. We also captured 360-degree helicopter footage for an experience on Pampus Island, focusing on the Defence Line of Amsterdam, and for a production at Floriade, where visitors take a virtual hot air balloon flight over Flevoland.
Capturing 360-degree footage by helicopter allows us to fly higher and faster than our drones, reaching locations that would otherwise be inaccessible. Furthermore, helicopters enable us to execute flight paths spanning several kilometers, which is more limited when using a drone. Utilizing a helicopter for 360 VR cinematography opens up an entirely different range of possibilities in terms of scale and perspective. Definitely let us know when you are looking for 360VR from underneath a helicopter, we can provide full service!
